Liverpool are on the brink of landing Bradley Barcola in a blockbuster move that could reshape their attack – and leave Cody Gakpo’s future hanging in the balance.

After weeks of hard negotiation, Liverpool and Paris Saint-Germain have finally reached an agreement in principle for Barcola, with Fabrizio Romano delivering his trademark “here we go” on the transfer.

The winger, long earmarked by Liverpool as their priority option for the left flank, will join for a guaranteed £100m. PSG sources, Romano reports, expect the total package to rise to around €140m once add-ons are triggered. Serious money. Serious intent.

The final formalities are now in motion: documents being drawn up, exchanged, checked by lawyers. Once that is complete, Barcola will be authorised to travel for his medical and to sign his contract at Anfield.

Liverpool have tracked the France international for a long time and originally had him in mind for summer 2025. The market moved, and so did they. When the chance came to bring that plan forward by a year, they pushed hard and didn’t let go.

At various points, noise around the deal suggested it might never happen. Reports from France and England insisted Barcola was not for sale, that PSG wanted impossible money, that a figure like €170m would be required. Liverpool kept their line. Romano repeatedly stressed that the link was alive, that the numbers being thrown around were off the mark.

Now the outcome is clear. Liverpool get one of the most coveted young wingers in Europe. PSG bank a huge fee. Barcola gets the move he wanted. All sides, as Romano puts it, are happy.

The Gakpo question

One big issue now sits in the middle of all this: Cody Gakpo.

The Dutchman has been the subject of persistent interest this summer, with Tottenham and Manchester City both in regular contact over his situation. According to Romano, Gakpo already has an agreement with Spurs, while his representatives are also in talks with City.

Liverpool’s next move in the market hinges on what happens there.

The club have not been acting as if Barcola is the only wide player they might bring in. They have already tested the waters for a second winger, seeing bids rejected for Yankuba Minteh and asking the question over Ismaila Sarr.

Romano is clear on the strategy: if Gakpo leaves – to Tottenham or to Manchester City – Liverpool will go back in for another winger and add again to their forward line. If he stays, they are prepared to go with what they have, Barcola included.

So the picture is simple, but the stakes are high. Barcola is coming. The fee is huge. The excitement is real.
