Top Successful Run Chases in T20I Cricket: Complete Record List
West Indies Set New Benchmark with Huge Chase in Ranchi
The West Indies have just pulled off one of the biggest run chases in T20 International cricket by successfully chasing 250 against India at the JSCA International Stadium in Ranchi. They reached the target with nine balls left, winning by six wickets and making the series more gripping.
At halfway through the innings, India seemed firmly in control after posting 249/5, their highest total versus the Caribbean team. Sanju Samson’s quickfire 82 led the way. Many would have expected the West Indies to fold under such pressure, but they didn’t.
Shai Hope, leading the side, attacked from the start, hitting boundaries freely. He scored a blazing century off just 45 balls, including nine sixes, finishing on 102. Sherfane Rutherford complemented him perfectly with an unbeaten 84 from 37 deliveries, featuring seven fours and as many sixes.
The conditions worsened for India as dew made gripping the ball difficult for the spinners. Axar Patel gave away 63 runs in 3.3 overs without taking a wicket, while Kuldeep Yadav conceded 53 runs in four overs with just one wicket. Both were punished down the straight boundaries. Romario Shepherd also contributed a quick 34 runs from 13 balls, helping West Indies finish at 252/4 in 18.3 overs.
This chase ranks as the second-highest successful pursuit in T20I history among full-member nations, trailing only South Africa’s 259-run chase.

The recent chase in Ranchi has pushed Australia's 245/5 in Auckland to third place. The West Indies now appear three times in the top ten all-time successful chases, showcasing their knack for big run hunts against India, South Africa, and England.
Only twice have full member teams chased down totals over 250, with South Africa's 259/4 remaining the highest ever. This latest effort by West Indies cements their place in T20I history.
