Al-Ahli's Bold Attack Against Al-Riyadh: Bosic's Strategy

A new test, a new look, and no hint of caution from Mario Bosic.

The Al-Ahli coach has rolled out an unapologetically attacking side for today’s Saudi league clash with Al-Riyadh, banking on firepower in this fifth-round fixture.

At the heart of his plan sits a sharp-edged front three: Francisco Trincao, Wenderson Galeno and Ivan Toney. It is a trident built for damage, not containment. Toney brings penalty-box presence and edge, Trincao offers craft between the lines, and Galeno adds direct running and chaos from wide areas. Bosic is clearly not interested in a quiet evening.

Behind them, creativity is layered rather than rationed. Edward Spertsyan starts in support, with Artem Bondarenko and Valentin Atangana offering legs and balance in midfield. That trio will be asked to control the tempo and feed the forwards, but also to protect a back line that will inevitably be exposed if Al-Ahli commit bodies forward as expected.

Victor Lekhal and Fahad Jizani provide steel and structure in midfield zones, while Teddy Okou and Issam Bahri are tasked with carrying the ball out and relieving pressure when it comes. Hassan Al-Ali and Antonis give Al-Riyadh options in the final third, whether on the break or from sustained possession if they manage to disrupt Al-Ahli’s rhythm.
